Welcome to The Long Goodbye, a production by Exegesis.

August 4, 2014, marks the centenary of the Great War. While there have been many memorials and appropriately sombre remembrances of the significant loss and tragedy of the First World War, The Long Goodbye is a means to “re-voice” the war narrative through a series of large-scale installations of love letters to those who left their homes to serve.

The Long Goodbye then, is an opportunity for the university community and the community at large to engage in historical research and imagination, and make a significant, heartfelt and knowledgeable contribution to Exeter’s Great War Centenary.

There will be a launch for The Long Goodbye: A Conversation Across a Century on August 4, 2014, 5-7 pm, outside Reed Hall, University of Exeter, Streatham Campus.

In attendance will be the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Percy Prowse, representatives of the University of Exeter Chaplaincy, and organisers and participants of the project.

The Gypsy Swing Band will play music from 1914. There will be readings from the project and from the Great War poetry canon. Reception to follow.

All are invited! To RSVP, email thelonggoodbyeproject@gmail.com
